When I talk to people about moving or staying on Long Island, more and more they mention lifestyle….walkability, local flavor, and experiences that go beyond just the walls of a home. As the leaves turn, there’s no better time to lean into fall in our region: apple picking, cider tasting, pumpkin patches, wine flights, and pie sampling.
Here are some of my favorite spots to enjoy autumn with family, couples, or even by yourself:
Apple & Pumpkin Picking
Harbes Orchard / Harbes Family Farm (Riverhead / Jamesport)
With over 27 varieties of apples, hayrides, pumpkin patches, and a wine & hard cider bar, Harbes is a Long Island fall staple.
Lewin Farms (Calverton, NY)
U-pick apples and pumpkins, year-round farm stand, plus seasonal events.
Woodside Orchards (Jamesport / Aquebogue)
Family-run orchard that also offers baked goods, cider, and a cozy tasting room.
Hank’s Pumpkintown (Water Mill, Suffolk County / South Fork)
Pick your own apples, wander corn mazes, enjoy cider donuts and more.
Wine & Cider Tasting
Macari Vineyards (Mattituck, North Fork)
Beautiful vineyard & tasting room. Great for a relaxed afternoon.
Baiting Hollow Farm Vineyard (Calverton)
They host family-friendly events, tastings, and wine + food pairings.
Cideries around Long Island
Some favorites: Jericho Cider Mill, Apple Theory Cidery, Riverhead Ciderhouse.
Pie & Donut Stops
At Harbes, you’ll find cider donuts and farm-fresh pastries.
Woodside Orchards also bakes pies and treats you can’t resist.
Local recommendation: Hallock’s Cider Mill is known for excellent pies and cider. (From community mentions)
Local Things to Do = Optimal Lifestyle
There is so much to do on Long Island and these places and fun things really build stronger communities. When people can walk to a cider mill, weekend market, or orchard, it deepens roots and makes neighborhoods more desirable. That kind of local flavor boosts demand and connects buyers with the kind of lifestyle they often dream about.
There’s so much more coming this season: events, new farm openings, weekend guides. Stick with me and I’ll keep sharing all the places I love and the opportunities I see in the market!
